Just a few notes. I didn't in fact photograph every single vehicle that passed. The digicam is slow, so when a string of several vehicles went by I generally got only the lead vehicle. This was too bad, because some bad encroachments were made by following cars when a pack of them went by.

I also missed a few due to pedestrians walking between the camera and the cars. So there were more cars, and more encroachments, than I actually managed to document.

I noticed that there was some correlation between drivers actually seeing a cyclist and showing respect for the bike lane; that is, cars which passed a cyclist were more likely to respect the bike lane.

Given the short time I stood there photographing cars (and puzzling the heck out of tourists at the nearby motel), I saw five pretty severe trespasses into the bike lane. This strikes me as adding up to rather a lot per diem, especially in the warm summer months (the silly season).

I did not observe cars driving at reckless speeds, but it was midday and this is off-season. On a warm Friday night in August I would expect some speeding.

It strikes me that the bikelane line starts being dashed too early. Some motorists may be consciously or subconsciously thinking that they no longer have to honour the lane at this curve because they can see right ahead of them the line becoming broken instead of solid. I'd suggest the City make the line solid all the way around the curve, then dash it for the last little bit before the motel driveway.

I saw no cyclists going the wrong way in the bike lane, but I saw 2 or maybe 3 cyclists riding the wrong way up the sidewalk. Of the cyclists who used the bike lane, one hugged the stone wall (which I think is a bad strategy here); the others stayed close to the outside of the bike lane, which I think is the right idea.

Due to the generally low speed of the cars, I didn't see what I'd call a dangerous situation here. But at a busier or rowdier time of year, with people speeding and/or DUI, I think we have a danger spot. I'd like to see the bikelane line made solid until it gets safely round the walled curve, and maybe even painted a solid no-fly-zone colour.
