Bench Phase V
This version of the workbench was current in Spring of 2001. The wooden marble molds have left their steel stockpot and now live in a plastic "swimming pool" which you see on the left of the bench. The tools are about the same, but there is more glass :-) and the incidental tools and supplies are now living in my old wooden tool chest.
You may think the tool chest is rather close to the torch, but in practise the heat goes up far more than back, and the chest stays quite cool even with the torch turned up farily high. I keep my torch flame pointed upwards rather than horizontally away from me.
The grid at the bottom is the top of a couple of Foremost creates. I rest my feet on them while I work, which puts me in a sort of crouching "gargoyle" position -- I find it oddly comfortable -- elbows resting on my knees. I have tried other positions, even armrests, but this is what I always come back to: a seat that is fairly high, almost at table level, and a rest for my feet.
