OK, OK, it's dorky! What can I say, I happened to have two chunks of broken glass from a little accident cutting Moretti sheet. One (red) looked a lot like the mainsail of a Bermuda-rigged sloop. The other (black) was a weird shape not unlike a small craft hull. And I had some blue sheet and some clear sheet, and... well... I just couldn't resist. I didn't have anything suitable for a headsail, so I made a cat-boat with (apparently) a full keel but shallow draft. This is in the "suncatcher" class, and not very exciting at that, but with a frame around it and some light behind it, it might not look too bad. Note that the two sheets of glass butted nicely at the right, but refused at the left. The piece is securely melded together anyway. It also has spikes all around the edges from overcooking; and the black moretti sheet reduced, or did something, that gives it the metallic sheen of hematite. I now know how to make fake hematite, very expensively :-) I also know that I have a lot to learn about glass cutting. And that Moretti sheet is rather thick for fusing. |
