This ridiculous marble was fun to make. It is actually a re-tread, as was the Raku Marble. It was a lousy marble made before I got the rounding process figured out (with a lot of help from my GlassLine friends!). I popped it back into the kiln, warmed it up, and re-worked it, adding red polka dots in a spirit of thumbing my nose at fate! The effect is somewhere between a poisonous mushroom and a kid's bouncy-ball. I lean towards the mushroom theory myself, but then I like shrooms, as you can see from some of the shroom pendants on other pages around here. Note: that curved line you see is NOT a surface flaw. It is a beautiful reflection of a piece of white silk cloth a few inches away. And that blue thing on the left is NOT an accidental blue dot among the red ones -- it is the reflection of the blue MOP marble just a couple of inches away -- OK, my work table is getting very cluttered! Except at the poles, this marble has a pretty good finish. |
