Better Marbles

These are the halfway-decent marbles I've made so far. They are not good marbles; there isn't a one of them that doesn't embarrass me somehow; but they at least are hopeful signs of better things to come. They all vary between just under an inch (Elegance, Red Swirl) to a bit over (Arizona, Warm Reverse). You can get some feel for relative size by looking at the test tube they're perched on.

I have posed them at their best for these shots, of course :-) every one of them has some little problem; a bubble scar, a little lump at one pole, a little dimple at one pole, a bit of surface roughness from overheating; but fundamentally they are round, they roll in a pretty straight line on a flat surface, and I am only slightly embarrassed by them, rather than ashamed :-)

Someday, I hope, these will be mere Seconds and there will be a gallery of really good marbles, maybe even marbles I could sell. I'll be disappointed if I can't do better than this. But I've only made about 50 marbles, total; and my "marble guru" Drew Fritts tells me he threw away, gave away, or stored in a big memory jar more than two hundred marbles before he finally made any good enough to sell. My message to any fellow marble newbies would be . . .Patience . . .
