encroaching cars

I stood on the W Cliff Bridge (sidewalk) for a half hour or so and photographed every vehicle that went by uphill (well almost -- see my comments. About 105 vehicles went by, of which 4 were bicycles. In this brief observation, around noon on a sunny Saturday in winter, of 100 or so cars that passed, I saw 15 cases in which the vehicle completely respected the bike lane (i.e. did not put a wheel on or over the paint line). I saw 5 cases in which a vehicle completely invaded the bike lane. I saw 20 cases in which half or more of a car encroached upon the bike lane. In all other cases, the car put its offside wheels on the line or over the line.
