Here you see some of the beauty of the mother of pearl glass. There is an truly pearlescent shimmer to it, and it naturally forms a fine, velvety "grain" under the glossy surface. It works like butter, smooth and soft, and takes a polish more willingly than any of the other rods I have tried to use for marbles. Highly recommended, but not cheap glass -- if I were making a large marble I'd make the core out of something less expensive! either that, or charge a lot for it. Imagine what you could do with raking this surface.
