Another marble from hell... this one seen here after its second trip through the kiln, and still not cooperating. It's a clear core, with stripes of green avventurina, then encased in transparent green. Seems simple enough, but the darned thing will not be round. It remains lumpy no matter what I do. And it has a persistent tendency to be oblate. I have a suspicion that the avventurina inside is stiffer than the soft green glass outside, and that this may be one reason why it remains stubbornly lumpy. Also note the big divot at the pole, on the right, where the last punty-off took a bite out of the marble. I just hate it when that happens. |
